Using a range of fabrics and threads, participants will explore collage to create a small textile
artwork. You will ‘draw’ with thread and stitching, using a combination of simple hand and machine
stitches to produce your own unique artwork based on a still life.

Description
We will discuss composition, mark making and texture, with an emphasis on experimentation and
play to create individual artworks. The workshop is suitable for all levels, however, familiarity with
use of a sewing machine is desirable.
Judith Macrae is a textile artist and arts educator, with a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Painting) from the
National Art School.
Her current art practice uses textiles and ranges from small sculpture through to two-dimensional
works created with rug-hooking techniques reimagined in a contemporary way. Materials used are
often reclaimed vintage fabrics and yarns. Judith’s works are expressive, emotional and playful and
are informed by a love of the natural world, colour and texture.
