Description

Students will explore a full palette of colours to render structure and form through careful observation. An excellent introduction to colour for students looking to develop transferable skills for mixing colour when painting with acrylic and oils. All levels of experience are welcome.

Materials List

Paper:

  •  1 – 2 sheets of coloured Canson ‘Mi-Teintes’ Pastel Paper (50 x 65 cm, 160gsm), or similar pastel drawing paper in ‘Oyster’ or a light colour of preference such as Eggshell, Flannel Grey, Steel Blue, Orchid, or Light Green, etc.
  • NOTE: You do not need to purchase the ‘Mi-Teintes Touch Pastel Paper’ as this is heavily textured (and more expensive). The lighter weight ‘Mi-Teintes Pastel Paper’ will be perfectly suitable for this workshop.
  • Cartridge paper or notebook for sketching and testing colours

Soft Pastels:

  • A good quality set of student colours such as ‘Mungyo Soft Pastels – Set of 48’ are suitable for this workshop. Do not purchase sets of 12 colours as this will limit your palette.
  • If you have them, soft pastel pencils also come in handy for details (but are not essential).
  • IMPORTANT NOTE: Soft pastels are different in feel, texture, and blending capabilities than oil pastels. Double check that you do not purchase oil pastels.
  • Micador Artists Workable Mat Fixitive Spray – Bring along if you have it. There will also be some cans available for you to use on the day.

Stationery:

  • Masking tape
  • Kneadable eraser
  • Ruler
  • Pencils and art diary
  • Paper stumps (optional)

Other:

  • Hand wipes and/or rags
  • Apron to protect clothes from pigments
